Nordic Ecolabel (the swan)
The Swan is the Nordic Eco-label. It
was established by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 1989, and
Denmark joined it in 1997. The Swan is used in all the Nordic
countries, viz. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland.
What are Swan-labelled cosmetic products?
Eco-labelled cosmetic products belong to the least
environmentally stressing products in their category, and they
comply with both environmental and health demands.
Among other things they must meet demands with regard to
degradability and bio accumulation, which means the durability in
the environment, demands on the contents of classified ingredients,
on the use of perfume and colours, on the packaging, and on the
efficiency of the products.
The demands with regard to health focus on allergy and other
possible serious effects. This is done by posing demands on the
properties of each substance and limitation of specific
substances.
Why choose the Swan-label?
- The manufacturers are allowed to use the Swan as a trademark in
their marketing efforts. The Swan label mantains a high level for
knowledge and credibility in the Nordic countries.
- The Swan-label is a cost effective and simple way to
communicate environmental work and environmental engagement to
purchasers and consumers.
- Questions concerning the environment are complex, and it may
take a long time for you to make yourself acquainted with the
specific subjects. Swan-labelling could be seen as a help to do
this work.
- Not only does Swan-labelling include environmental demands but
also quality demands, since environment and quality are parameters
that go hand in hand. It means that a Swan-label licence can also
be seen as a quality stamp.
